The Punjab government has approved the establishment of Maryam Nawaz Medical College in Mianwali and the upgradation of DHQ Hospital into a teaching hospital, responding to the long-standing need for better medical facilities in the district. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved the project following a request from MPA Ali Haider Noor Khan Niazi, marking a significant step in improving local healthcare and medical education.
Previously, residents of Mianwali had to travel to cities like Rawalpindi or Lahore for advanced medical treatment, which often delayed critical care. The new medical college and upgraded hospital aim to provide modern healthcare services, emergency care, and medical training for future doctors, reducing travel and improving health outcomes in the region.
A local official said, “This project will not only strengthen healthcare services in Mianwali but also open doors for aspiring medical students who otherwise had limited opportunities locally.” Authorities have been asked to submit a feasibility report within seven days to finalize plans for swift implementation.
This initiative is part of the Punjab government’s broader strategy to expand medical education and healthcare accessibility across underserved districts. By combining education with practical hospital experience, the project promises to train qualified doctors and improve emergency response in the region.
