Lahore: The Punjab government has restarted the process of verifying and digitizing old manual arms licenses, providing a final opportunity for license holders to update their records. The initiative aims to streamline firearm registration and enhance record accuracy, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
The Home Department has instructed licence holders to convert their older booklet-style permits into digital records. Applicants for verification and computerisation may submit their applications to the Additional Secretary Judicial or the Commissioner of the relevant division.
The government had previously established December 31, 2020, as the final date for digitisation. Subsequently, unregistered licenses were declared null and void. However, authorities have reopened the process in order to accommodate citizens.
Updated Process of Verification
Applications will be processed exclusively by designated officials in accordance with the most recent guidelines. Before a licence is updated in the digital database, each case will undergo a review and official approval will be necessary.
In accordance with the Punjab Arms Rules 2023, applicants are required to submit the requisite documentation and pay the renewal fee. NADRA has been directed by the government to ensure a seamless transition by efficiently revising records.
A formal notification has been sent to all divisional commissioners, underscoring the significance of concluding the process within the specified timeframe.
