Punjab Government to Distribute 10,000 Free Electric Bikes to Students

Lahore: In a significant move to support students across the province, the Punjab government has announced the distribution of 10,000 free electric bikes. This initiative aims to provide deserving male and female students with their means of transport, easing their commute and promoting environmental sustainability.
The decision was made by Rashid Iqbal Nasrullah, the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Punjab on Zakat and Ushr, during a meeting of the subcommittee from the Punjab Zakat and Ushr Council. The event was attended by a number of significant provincial officials, including Senator Dr. Ghaus Muhammad Khan Niazi and MPA Malik Iftikhar Ahmed, as well as senior provincial officials.
Electric Bike Scheme Details
Under the initiative, 2,000 bikes will be distributed in the first phase, with the rest to follow in subsequent phases. The scheme is aimed at providing support to Zakat-eligible individuals, particularly those who meet the following criteria:
- Applicants must be over 18 years of age.
- Must be a regular student at a degree college or University recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
- Must hold a valid motorcycle learner’s Permit or driving license.
In case the number of applications exceeds the allocated quota, an e-balloting system will be employed to ensure a fair distribution process.
The electric cycle scheme, which is a component of a comprehensive program to provide assistance to Zakat beneficiaries for forthcoming welfare initiatives, was authorized by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The program enhances the transportation accessibility of over 800,000 pupils in Punjab by providing them with complimentary electric bikes.
