Punjab Govt Approves Rs. 18 Billion Water Projects for Rawalpindi

The Punjab Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved Rs. 17.9 billion for major water supply and sewerage projects across Rawalpindi, including areas under WASA and the Rawalpindi and Chaklala Cantonment Boards. The decision, made during a PDWP meeting on November 7 in Lahore, aims to improve urban water delivery and sanitation systems.

The key project, costing Rs. 11 billion, will establish a modern underground sewerage network in WASA-controlled localities currently lacking proper facilities, enhancing environmental protection and urban living standards. Another Rs. 3.6 billion has been allocated to replace old pipelines connecting Khanpur and Rawal dams, ensuring uninterrupted, clean water supply.

Additionally, Rs. 3.3 billion will upgrade sewerage infrastructure in Rawalpindi and Chaklala Cantonment Boards, while a separate scheme will build a new water supply system across Union Councils 76 to 80 in Provincial Constituency PP-13.

A PDWP official stated,

“These initiatives reflect Punjab’s commitment to modernizing civic infrastructure and providing safe water and sanitation to residents of major urban centers.”

The projects are part of a broader provincial strategy to enhance living conditions, improve environmental standards, and ensure sustainable water management in key cities.
