The Punjab government has officially ended the use of paper files as the Civil Secretariat and its affiliated offices have been fully digitized under the new e-Filing System.
According to the Chief Secretary’s spokesperson, every document and file is now processed digitally through the e-Filing and Office Automation System (e-FOAS), marking the completion of one of the province’s largest digital transformation projects.
The decades-old paper filing system has been phased out, with remaining files being cleared and prepared for disposal. Officials highlighted that this milestone aligns with the provincial government’s broader good governance agenda, aiming to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability in administrative operations.
The fiscal impact of adopting the e-Filing System has been significant, reducing more than 80 percent of stationery expenses and saving the government millions annually.
In addition to major cost savings, the new system allows for real-time digital tracking of documents, drastically improving coordination between departments. Officials said the e-FOAS ensures faster decision-making and unprecedented oversight, symbolizing a new era of digital governance in Punjab.
