Punjab Govt Launches Rs12bn Plan to Boost English Language Skills

The Punjab government has launched a comprehensive initiative to improve English language skills across public schools. With a proposed budget of Rs12 billion, the program aims to train both students and teachers through modern learning methods and global-standard resources.

According to the School Education Department, the English language skills improvement plan will introduce a modern curriculum, digital learning tools, and updated teaching materials in government schools. The goal is to make English learning more practical and accessible for millions of students across Punjab.

Under the new plan, government teachers will undergo English proficiency training aligned with international benchmarks to ensure consistent and high-quality instruction. The department also intends to provide digital resources and interactive tools to enhance classroom engagement and language comprehension.

Officials say the initiative will help bridge the gap between local education standards and global learning expectations. It will also enable students to communicate more effectively in academic and professional settings.

A recent report highlights that only 35% of children in Punjab can currently read and write English. Authorities believe that this Rs12 billion project will play a crucial role in raising literacy levels and preparing students for global competition through improved English language skills.
