The Government of Punjab is planning to increase traffic fines on the Lahore Ring Road as part of new measures aimed at improving road safety and traffic management.
According to official sources, authorities have proposed raising the penalty for over-speeding, which is currently set at Rs500. The proposal has been forwarded for approval to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
In addition to increasing fines, officials have also approved the establishment of a modern command and control centre to monitor traffic activity on the ring road. The facility will operate under the Lahore Ring Road Authority and will use advanced AI-powered cameras to detect over-speeding and other traffic violations.
Authorities said the new system will monitor more than 150,000 vehicles passing through the ring road daily, enabling stricter enforcement of traffic laws and improved traffic discipline.
The project is estimated to cost Rs871 million and is expected to be completed within four months. Officials say the initiative will enhance traffic monitoring, strengthen security on the ring road, and ensure safer commuting for motorists.
