The Punjab government has raised the annual fee for MBBS and BDS programs at public sector medical and dental colleges from Rs15,000 to Rs50,000, an increase of over 233 percent.
The revised fee structure applies only to students admitted this year. Those enrolled up to last year will continue to pay the previous rate, with no increase in their fees. Newly admitted students will pay Rs35,000 more annually than students in earlier batches.
The change came to light with the issuance of the admission policy for the 2026-27 academic session.
Under the policy, merit will be determined on a fixed formula, with the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) carrying 50 percent weightage, FSc 40 percent and Matric 10 percent.
On eligibility, applicants must have studied Biology and Chemistry, along with a pass in either Physics or Mathematics.
Candidates applying to public medical colleges must list all colleges in their order of preference. No limit has been set on the number of preferences for private medical colleges.
