Punjab Imposes Strict Ban on Outdoor Activities in Private Schools

Several private schools in Punjab have defied government orders banning outdoor activities amid worsening smog, continuing recreational trips that risk students’ health.

The Punjab government recently banned all outdoor events in schools to protect children from severe air pollution and respiratory health hazards caused by persistent smog across the province. Schools are required to obtain prior approval from education authorities before any student excursions.

Despite the restrictions, schools have organized trips to Joyland, Jallo Park, Safari Park, and Lahore Zoo, ignoring official directives.

A Lahore Education Authority official warned,

“Strict action will be taken against schools found violating the directives.” Authorities emphasize that smog exposure poses serious risks to children, particularly affecting their respiratory systems.

The District Education Authority (DEA) has been criticized for lax enforcement, allowing non-compliant schools to continue outdoor activities without approval. Media reports confirm widespread violations despite the clear government ban.

The government’s move highlights the need for effective monitoring and compliance in private schools to safeguard students’ health during periods of hazardous air quality. Experts say that strict adherence to these restrictions is crucial to prevent long-term health impacts.
