The Punjab government has introduced new reforms to the practical examination marking system, withdrawing the authority of examiners at examination centers to award full marks in board practical exams.
Under the new policy, the written portion of practical examinations will be checked through a centralized marking system managed by the respective education boards. The revised rules will apply to all educational boards across Punjab.
Officials said the change aims to address concerns about the previous system, where recommendations and preferential marking could influence practical exam results. The new mechanism is intended to improve transparency and ensure fair assessment.
Under the updated system, the 30 marks allocated for practical exams will be divided into two parts. The written answer sheet of the practical exam will now be evaluated directly by the board through centralized checking.
Meanwhile, examiners present at examination centers will only award limited marks based on viva and practical performance, significantly reducing their authority in the final grading process.
The policy will apply to practical examinations in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Studies.
Muzammil Mahmood stated that merely formal or oral practicals will no longer be acceptable, adding that marks in practical examinations will now be awarded strictly on merit.
