The Punjab Land Records Authority (PLRA) has introduced a new requirement for property transactions, making it mandatory to include the buyer’s name and CNIC number on the Fard Baraye Bay, a key document used during the sale of land and property.
According to a statement issued on Friday, the move is aimed at improving transparency in land dealings and reducing long-standing issues such as fraud, forgery, and document misuse. The authority said that identifying the buyer at the time of issuing the Fard will help ensure that the document is used only for its intended purpose.
Under the new system, buyer details will be linked with CNIC data from the start, creating a digital record that can be traced and verified. Officials believe this will discourage duplicate Fards and prevent unauthorized use of ownership records.
The PLRA also said the reform would help curb paper-based manipulation and reduce dependence on the traditional patwari system, which has often been blamed for delays and irregularities in land transactions.
With the updated process, citizens will be able to verify Fard Baraye Bay documents online through the Punjab Land Records Portal, making property transactions safer and more accessible. The authority added that the step is part of broader efforts to modernize land record management across the province.
The Punjab government has described the measure as another step towards protecting buyers and sellers, particularly at a time when property disputes remain a major concern for ordinary citizens.
Fard Baraye Bay is issued to confirm ownership and verify that a property is clear of disputes and eligible for transfer. By clearly identifying the buyer, authorities hope the document will now serve its purpose more effectively.
