The Punjab government has launched a major housing initiative to build 57,000 affordable homes across 21 districts under a 5-year plan on government owned land. The project will be developed in partnership with the World Bank and the private sector and will offer easy installment plans to eligible citizens.
In the first phase, 41 sites have been identified for construction of 2,000 housing units. The Housing Department confirmed that all essential facilities will be provided at the sites and that strict monitoring and quality inspections will be carried out during construction. The department added that the scheme will be presented to the provincial cabinet for formal approval in the coming weeks.
The programme is designed to increase access to quality housing while keeping monthly payments affordable through extended installment schedules. Officials said government ownership of the land will help reduce costs and speed project delivery. The World Bank partnership will support financing and technical oversight while private sector involvement will manage construction and upkeep.
The Housing Department said the plan aims to deliver tangible housing solutions to deserving families and to improve urban planning outcomes across the province.
