Punjab Launches QR-Based Cashless Travel on EV Buses

Punjab introduces a QR-based payment system for electric buses, allowing passengers to travel without physical cards. This digital move aims to simplify commuting and promote cashless transport.

The Punjab Masstransit Authority (PMA) launched the new feature through the eTransit Punjab mobile app. Passengers can register using their mobile number, recharge their in-app wallet, and generate a secure QR code for scanning on EV buses. Fares are automatically deducted, ensuring faster, hassle-free boarding.

Officials emphasized that this step is part of the province’s broader efforts to modernize public transport, encourage digital payments, and reduce reliance on cash.

“Our goal is to make daily travel easier, safer, and fully digital for commuters across Punjab,” said a PMA spokesperson.

The system supports Android devices with plans to expand further.

This initiative complements other cashless transport efforts, including e-tags for vehicles in Islamabad.
