The Punjab government has indicated that summer vacations this year could extend up to two months, while winter holidays are expected to be scheduled in January, as part of a revised academic calendar for government-run schools.
The new academic year has officially begun, with authorities introducing measures to support students and reduce institutional costs. Officials have also announced the distribution of nearly 30 million free textbooks to ensure uninterrupted access to learning materials during the academic year.
Students in grades one to three will receive textbooks completely free of cost. Grade four and five students will get most of their textbooks free, while middle school students from grades six to nine will receive a portion of their textbooks at no cost. Grade ten students will continue to receive full sets of free textbooks. A book bank system will also support students needing additional resources.
In addition to student-focused initiatives, the provincial government is considering reducing commercial electricity tariffs for government schools to lower operational expenses and provide financial relief to educational institutions across Punjab.
