Punjab Makes Strict Security SOPs Mandatory for All Schools

The Punjab government has tightened security regulations for all public and private schools, making 8 foot boundary walls, barbed wire, and enhanced surveillance measures mandatory as authorities step up efforts to ensure student safety across the province.

The move comes as law enforcement agencies have urged education institutions to strengthen on ground security. Officials noted that several schools had previously been advised to upgrade their safety infrastructure, but compliance remained inconsistent. The new directives now make these measures compulsory to avoid any lapse in campus protection.

New Safety Requirements for Schools

According to the latest instructions, every school must deploy trained security guards and ensure round the clock operation of CCTV cameras and webcams. Metal detectors and a panic button at entry points are now compulsory, and staff must actively monitor the main gate throughout the school day.

Schools have also been ordered to operate through a single gate and conduct emergency mock exercises with Rescue 1122 and Civil Defence teams. Administrations must clearly mark emergency exits, display important helpline numbers in principal offices and staff rooms, and set up water reservoirs for emergency preparedness.

Authorities further directed all institutions to secure clearance from the Special Branch, a requirement now mandatory for continued operation.

Officials say the strict enforcement aims to strengthen campus security and ensure a safe and stable learning environment across Punjab.
