The Punjab Police has unveiled a comprehensive reform initiative aimed at improving police accountability, officer conduct, and public service across the province. The initiative, directed by the Punjab Chief Minister, marks a new phase in law enforcement focused on transparency and citizen empowerment.
Key Measures Under the Reform Plan
1. Citizen Respect and Conduct:
- Citizens visiting police stations, offices, and checkpoints will be addressed respectfully as “sir” or “madam.”
- Clear rules ensure courteous behavior is standardized.
- Misbehavior, corruption, misuse of authority, or immoral conduct will face strict disciplinary action.
2. Strengthening Accountability:
- A restructured accountability system will make officers fully answerable for their actions.
- Excessive use of authority or unethical behavior will trigger immediate disciplinary measures.
3. Technological Upgrades:
- Cameras will be installed for the entire police force within two months to record operations, raids, and station activities.
- Live monitoring from the Central Police Office will allow senior officials to oversee operations in real time.
- Panic buttons will be installed outside police stations to allow citizens to register complaints immediately.
4. Streamlined Case Management:
- Strategies are in place to end delays in registering cases and conducting investigations.
- Punjab Inspector General Abdul Karim personally contacts petitioners to ensure complaints are addressed promptly.
