The Punjab Information Technology Board (Punjab Information Technology Board) has set an ambitious target to connect 1.5 million new users to broadband services as part of a major digital expansion initiative across the province.
According to official sources, preparations are underway for a high-speed internet project aimed at significantly improving connectivity and digital access. The plan includes doubling the number of broadband connections in Punjab.
Under the project, broadband infrastructure will be expanded to more than 400 urban locations, ensuring wider internet coverage. Key public institutions including schools, hospitals, and government offices will be equipped with high-speed internet to enhance service delivery and digital access.
To facilitate telecom operators, the government plans to reduce permit approval time from 90 days to just 21 days, making it easier for companies to expand their networks.
Officials say improved infrastructure and streamlined processes will also encourage greater private sector investment in the telecom and technology sectors.
The broader objective of the initiative is to provide modern digital services to around 20 million people in the coming years. Authorities believe the project will drive significant improvements in education, healthcare, and business activities across the province.
The move reflects Punjab’s continued push toward digital transformation and expanding access to affordable, high-speed internet.
