The Punjab Education Minister has announced that salaries for more than 12,500 School Teacher Interns (STIs) across the province have begun processing after months of delay.
The minister stated that temporary teachers who have not received their salaries for the past four months will have their bank accounts credited within the next week. The announcement comes as relief for thousands of interns working in government schools throughout Punjab.
According to officials, the Punjab Finance Department has released over Rs1 billion to clear the pending salaries of STIs.
The minister further explained that the School Teacher Interns program hires educators on six-month contracts to help address staff shortages in public schools. Authorities assured that future payments will be made on time to avoid similar delays.
The move is expected to ease financial pressure on teachers while helping maintain stability in Punjab’s education system.
