The Punjab School Education Department has tightened oversight of funds held by School Management Councils, ordering all District Education Authorities to immediately report the status of audit committee formation across the province.
Under the SMC policy, every district was required to constitute an audit committee within 30 days. The department has now sought responses from all Chief Executive Officers of District Education Authorities on this requirement.
Districts that have failed to form audit committees must provide clear and concrete reasons for non-compliance, while districts that have established committees must submit notifications along with complete details of the officers concerned.
The policy requires District Audit Committees to audit 30 to 40 percent of School Management Councils every year and submit a comprehensive annual report to the School Education Department after each audit cycle. Districts without functional audit committees will be held accountable and required to explain the lapse.
The audit framework was designed to ensure financial transparency and the proper use of school funds across Punjab.
