The Punjab government has announced plans to introduce a Smart Rapid Transport (SRT) system in Lahore, which will operate along the Yellow Line route.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has tasked Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan with making the project operational at the earliest.
Speaking about the project, Bilal Akbar Khan said the SRT system will run along Canal Road from Thokar Chowk to Harbanspura, covering approximately 26 kilometers. The plan includes the construction of around eight stations along the corridor.
He added that the system will operate with six rail units and is expected to serve more than 12,000 passengers daily. The estimated cost of the project ranges between Rs. 6 billion and Rs. 8 billion.
Although the route aligns with the Yellow Line, the government has set a target to make the SRT system operational within one month. Authorities have already initiated the tender process for the project.
