Qualcomm is preparing to launch its Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC in China on November 26, the company’s Chinese branch confirmed today. The announcement follows the September unveiling of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit in Maui, Hawaii, where the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 was also teased without full details and a confirmed release date.
The company has not yet revealed the full specifications or features of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. However, Qualcomm described the upcoming chip in September as a mobile platform designed to offer users more flexibility while retaining flagship performance.
Recent updates confirm that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, like the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, is built on a 3nm process. The prime core of the Gen 5 will run at up to 3.8GHz, with the performance cores reaching 3.32GHz. In comparison, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 clocks its prime cores at 4.6GHz and its performance cores at 3.62GHz.
Earlier reports suggested the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 would feature a 1+7 core configuration. However, another source now claims it will adopt a 2+6 layout, matching the Elite model’s structure. This means two prime cores and six performance cores. The chip is also expected to use the Adreno 840 GPU, though its graphics performance may differ from the Elite variant. Full details of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will be unveiled next week.
