Construction on Rawalpindi’s signal-free corridor is progressing steadily, with significant work completed on major flyovers and underpasses aimed at easing traffic congestion between Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Authorities have reported 80% piling completion at Jinnah Park flyover and initial progress at other intersections.
The signal-free corridor project was launched to reduce traffic bottlenecks in Rawalpindi city, improve commuter safety, and ensure smoother connectivity on key urban routes. Construction officially began on November 3, 2025, targeting major intersections including Jinnah Park, Kachehri Chowk, and Iftikhar Janjua Chowk.
Commissioner Rawalpindi, Engineer Aamir Khattak, stressed transparency, adherence to environmental standards, and timely completion. He confirmed that funds have been released according to plan and authorized further disbursements to maintain project momentum.
“This corridor will significantly ease traffic flow and improve connectivity between Rawalpindi and Islamabad,” said Commissioner Khattak.
Authorities have also instructed the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) to speed up construction on the Annexy Chowk and Iftikhar Janjua underpasses to ensure efficient traffic movement. The project review included senior officials from the Highways department and coordination offices, providing updates on all ongoing construction activities.
This development is expected to boost urban mobility, reduce travel times, and support Rawalpindi’s growing transport infrastructure needs.
