RDA Launches Transparency Drive With New Signboards in University Town

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has launched a transparency focused initiative by installing signboards on mortgaged and transfer deed plots in the famous University Town Housing Scheme. The move aims to inform residents about the real status of public use plots and prevent misuse or illegal sales.

As part of the background, RDA has been actively working to curb unauthorized constructions and regulate housing schemes across the district. This latest action continues the authority’s ongoing crackdown on illegal building activities.

According to the RDA spokesperson, the Land Directorate team placed signboards on areas reserved for a school, a graveyard, and a masjid, clearly marking them as public purpose plots.

“This step will help citizens understand which plots cannot be sold or transferred due to legal restrictions,” the spokesperson added, emphasizing the department’s focus on transparency under Director General Kinza Murtaza’s direction.

In a parallel operation, the RDA Enforcement Squad sealed an under construction building in Bahria Town Phase 8 for violating building laws. Officials confirmed that the construction was underway without mandatory NOCs and approvals, which is a direct violation of the Punjab Development of Cities Act 1976 and RDA Zoning Regulations 2021. Authorities have also requested an FIR against Bahria Town CEO Ali Riaz, building owner Shafqat Ali, and contractor Mushtaq.

RDA’s Director General has instructed the Land Use and Building Control Wing to take strict action against encroachments and illegal commercial activities. She also ordered a complete survey to evaluate documentation and fees required for regularizing unauthorized structures in RDA controlled areas.
