The provicial government of Sindh has approved a 7 percent increase in salaries for Rescue 1122 employees and extended the service of all contract staff by one year. It has also cleared a Rs30 million martyrs package for rescue personnel.
The decisions were made at the sixth meeting of the Sindh Emergency Council, chaired by Adviser to the Chief Minister Gianchand Essrani. The session reviewed the performance, financial and administrative matters, staff welfare and new allowances of the of Rescue 1122.
Director General Rescue 1122 Brigadier (retd) Wajid Sibghatullah Mehr briefed the council on the record of the service. Since its establishment, Rescue 1122 has provided medical assistance and other services to more than 1.33 million people and saved 5,238 lives in various incidents.
It now receives over 10,000 calls a day and operates with 149 vehicles and 1,723 personnel. The council also examined fire safety audits and the anti-rabies campaign, and endorsed the minutes of its previous meeting, Essrani said.
On health insurance and pensions for rescue employees, the council decided to forward the matter to the provincial cabinet after final consultation. It will also approach the Sindh Finance Department for approval of the new allowances.
