The Punjab Police will procure more than 253,000 uniforms during the current financial year as part of a new policy to standardise uniform designs across all operational units.
Under the approved policy, badges, caps, berets, medals, pockets and name plates will follow a single uniform pattern across the force, though the existing uniform colour will remain unchanged.
Officials said the initiative aims to establish a consistent appearance throughout the department, noting that different units had previously used varying designs and patterns for their uniforms and accessories.
The new uniforms will be distributed among the District Police, Punjab Highway Patrol, Traffic Police, Elite Force, Special Protection Unit, Regional Mounted Police and other departments.
Of the total, more than 125,000 olive-green uniforms are earmarked for the District Police alone.
The provincial government has set aside nearly Rs two billion in the budget for the uniform procurement programme. Officials said every serving police officer across the various units will receive at least one new uniform under the initiative.
The pre-qualification process for the 253,000 uniforms is set to begin later this month, officials added. They also confirmed that around 90,000 uniforms procured for the District Police under last years programme have already been received and will soon be distributed among personnel.
