The Safe City Authority has officially confirmed that all genuine e‑challan SMS notifications will now be sent only from the short code 9915, aiming to curb the growing spread of fake traffic fine messages and online scams. Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious and verify the source before taking any action.
According to a Safe City spokesperson, the authority does not send e‑challan messages from any number other than 9915. Previously, some notifications were issued via the government number 8070, which led to confusion and misuse by fraudsters. The spokesperson emphasized that any SMS claiming to be an e‑challan alert from a different number should be treated as fake.
“Safe City never asks citizens for payments, bank details, or account information through SMS or links,” the spokesperson clarified.
This clarification comes amid a surge in fake e‑challan websites and scam messages circulating online. Recently, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) blocked more than 100 fraudulent e‑challan websites that were designed to steal personal and financial information. These scams often pressure users into making instant payments through suspicious links.
Citizens are strongly advised not to click on unknown links or make payments based on unsolicited SMS messages. Any suspected fraud should be reported to the relevant authorities to help prevent further misuse and protect others from falling victim to such scams.
