The Punjab School Education Department has officially revised school timings across the province from January 19, 2026, citing severe cold weather and persistent fog. The new schedule will remain effective until April 15, aiming to ensure student safety and maintain academic continuity during harsh winter conditions.
According to the notification issued on Friday, all government schools in Punjab will follow updated operating hours starting Monday. Single-shift schools will function from 10:00 am to 2:15 pm from Monday to Thursday, while Friday classes will conclude earlier at 12:30 pm. In double-shift schools, the morning shift will continue until 2:00 pm, followed by the afternoon shift from 2:15 pm to 4:45 pm.
An official from the School Education Department stated, “The revised timings are designed to reduce risks associated with fog and cold while ensuring that learning activities continue smoothly.”
The decision follows ongoing disruptions caused by dense fog and low temperatures across Punjab, which have affected student attendance and daily school routines. Earlier, the department had already extended winter vacations by one week as a precautionary measure. The latest adjustment further reflects the government’s efforts to balance safety with academic requirements.
The notification also clarifies that teachers will attend schools on alternate Saturdays. These days will be dedicated to curriculum planning, training workshops, and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities to enhance teaching quality.
Education authorities have urged parents, students, and teachers to strictly follow the revised schedule to avoid confusion and ensure smooth implementation.
