School Timing Changes in Lahore for PSL and Summer Heat

Students in Lahore are set to experience a shift in their daily schedules as the Punjab government has rolled out school timing changes in Lahore, citing two key reasons—upcoming PSL X matches and increasing temperatures.

As per an official notification, from April 3 to April 21, all public and private schools in Lahore will operate from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This temporary adjustment is aimed at minimizing traffic disruptions and ensuring student safety, especially near PSL venues where heavy security and road closures are expected.

In a separate development, the Punjab School Education Department (SED) has issued updated summer schedules for all government schools across the province. These school timing changes in Lahore and beyond will take effect from April 7 and continue until October 15, targeting heat-related concerns.

According to the SED circular:

  • Single-shift schools will run from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM (Monday–Thursday) and 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Fridays.

  • Double-shift schools will follow:

    • Morning shift: 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM (Mon–Thu), 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM (Fri)

    • Evening shift: 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM (Mon–Thu), 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM (Fri)

Heads of schools are permitted a 15-minute adjustment window for opening and closing times depending on local needs, especially when managing separate timings for boys’ and girls’ schools.

The School Education Department has instructed all CEOs of District Education Authorities (DEA) to strictly enforce these revised schedules. Non-compliance may lead to disciplinary measures, including potential legal consequences.

With these steps, the government hopes to balance the city’s logistical demands during PSL season and safeguard students amid the intensifying summer heat.
