Motorway Police (MP) have filed seven first information reports (FIRs) against individuals found violating pedestrian safety rules by crossing the motorway on foot, reported a local news outlet on Friday.
A spokesperson for the Motorway Police, Syed Imran Ahmad, stated that the FIRs were lodged under Sections 290/291 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). These actions highlight the ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of both vehicles and pedestrians along the highways.
Imran Ahmad emphasized that the security of highways and motorways remains a top priority for the police force. He also pointed out the severe risks involved in crossing motorways without following the designated pedestrian guidelines, mentioning that such violations have led to fatal accidents and injuries in the past.
He urged road users to make use of the footbridges provided for their own safety. “A few moments of carelessness can lead to life-threatening situations,” Ahmad cautioned.
In addition to the seven recent FIRs, he mentioned that in March 2025, Motorway Police had made one arrest and registered 20 cases overall. These include four cases on the Lahore-Sialkot motorway (M-11), six on the Lahore-Islamabad motorway (M-2), one on the Lahore-Multan motorway (M-3), and nine on the M-4 and M-5 corridors.
The Motorway Police continue to encourage all road users to adhere strictly to traffic rules to prevent accidents and ensure safer travel for everyone.
