Seven NCCIA Officials Resign Amid Bribery Scandal
Seven senior officials of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) have tendered their resignations after being implicated in a major bribery and misuse-of-authority case. Their resignation letters were sent to the Ministry of Interior two days ago, though approval is still pending.
The scandal surfaced when a case was registered by the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle Lahore against eight NCCIA officials and one private individual. The case was initiated following a complaint by Aroob Jatoi, wife of popular YouTuber Saadur Rehman (Ducky Bhai), alleging the officials took bribes related to his arrest over promoting gambling apps.According to reports, a judicial magistrate in Lahore granted a three-day physical remand of the seven NCCIA officers and a civilian suspect earlier this week. Initially, the bribe amount was stated to be Rs 9 million, but investigators later recovered Rs 42.5 million, suggesting deeper corruption within the agency.
The arrested officials include the Additional Director, Deputy Director, Assistant Directors, and Sub-Inspectors. The ongoing probe aims to uncover whether more agency members were involved in bribery or extortion practices.
A senior FIA source noted,
“The case has raised serious concerns about internal accountability mechanisms within cybercrime enforcement agencies.”
Experts say the scandal highlights the urgent need for transparency and oversight in digital law enforcement, especially as Pakistan expands its cybercrime monitoring operations.
