Former Pakistan cricket captain and legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram has been falsely listed in a “Divorce XI” social media post, sparking outrage from his wife, Shaniera Akram. The misleading post, shared by a cricket page on X (formerly Twitter), falsely included Akram among cricketers who have gone through divorces.
Shaniera Akram swiftly responded, taking to X to condemn the misinformation. Reposting the tweet, she criticized the page, “Out Of Context Cricket,” for spreading false claims and urged users to verify facts before sharing.
“Hey @GemsOfCricket. You guys are definitely ‘out of context,’ and from what I can see, you’re also out of correct and reliable information!” she wrote.
Wasim Akram’s first marriage ended in 2009, when Huma Mufti died of multiple organ failure. Akram has never gotten divorced. Wasim Akram married Australian woman Shaniera Thompson in 2013, and the two raised their daughter Aiyla together.
Former cricketer Anil Kumble was incorrectly portrayed as married to Chetana Ramatheertha in a social media post, despite the fact that they have been together since 1999. Chetana has had previous marriages, but Kumble has never been divorced. The list included Ravi Shastri, Javagal Srinath, Dinesh Karthik, and Shikhar Dhawan, but Yuzvendra Chahal was deemed a big impact player.
The incorrect social media post sparked an intense discussion on why people should double-check facts before sharing personal information. The people agreed with Shaniera Akram in their numerous tweets, implying the need for social media decorum.
The Pakistani cricket team exited the 2025 Champions Trophy early after suffering two consecutive defeats. The New Zealand squad defeated Pakistan by 60 runs, boosting the next match between Pakistan and their traditional adversary India. Pakistan lost by six wickets despite their best efforts, as Indian player Virat Kohli demonstrated his superiority for the second time.
The backlash surrounding the “Divorce XI” controversy highlights the growing need for accuracy and accountability in digital content, especially regarding public figures and their personal lives.
