Pakistan’s short-term inflation, measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), increased 0.21% during the week ended October 1, 2026, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). On a year-on-year basis, SPI inflation rose 11.53%.
The SPI increased to 370.46 from 369.69 a week earlier, with prices of 20 out of 51 monitored items rising, while 10 declined and 21 remained unchanged. Chicken recorded the largest weekly increase of 7.25%, followed by garlic, pulse gram, LPG and eggs.
On a year-on-year basis, onion prices recorded the highest increase at 114.20%, followed by LPG at 66.59% and electricity charges for the lowest consumption group at 58.59%. Diesel and petrol prices were also 44.50% and 44.05% higher, respectively, compared with the same week last year.
Meanwhile, tomato prices posted the largest annual decline at 45.52%, followed by potatoes, sugar and eggs. The data also showed that SPI inflation varied across income groups, with the highest expenditure quintile recording 11.99% year-on-year inflation.
