Konami finally broke the silence during yesterday’s PlayStation State of Play. The publisher revealed the first official gameplay trailer for Silent Hill: Townfall. This full-length entry brings a major shift to the franchise. It features a first-person perspective and a 2026 release window. The trailer showcases jaw-dropping graphics and a hauntingly familiar soundtrack.
The game transports players to the island of St. Amelia. Here, the story introduces a new protagonist named Simon Ordell. Simon wakes up in the water surrounding the island wearing a medical band. He appears to be ill or injured. During the trailer, Simon speaks with a mysterious woman. Their dialogue regarding “not wanting to stay in a room forever” hints at deep psychological themes. These narrative beats evoke memories of James and Mary Sunderland from Silent Hill 2.
Simon must navigate foggy, empty streets and face monstrous creatures. Fortunately, he is not defenceless. He uses a handgun and a plank of wood for combat. The gameplay emphasises survival in a terrifying, immersive environment.
Silent Hill: Townfall introduces a unique handheld device called the “CRTV”. Director Jon McKellan describes it as a mix of retro technology and innovative techniques. This gadget features a small display screen. It alerts Simon to nearby threats. Furthermore, it allows him to “see” through the environment.
The device provides gritty audio and visuals. This design choice pays homage to early series entries on older consoles. Consequently, it adds an uncanny tone to the first-person exploration.
This project is a joint effort between Konami, Annapurna Interactive, and Screen Burn. The developers are prioritising story-driven puzzles and mysterious narrative design. They want the game to feel specific to their team’s creative vision.
The franchise is currently building momentum. The successful Silent Hill 2 remake, followed by Silent Hill f, has restored interest in the IP. Silent Hill: Townfall follows a long drought that included the mixed reception of Silent Hill: Downpour and the cancellation of P.T. While previous interactive attempts like Silent Hill: Ascension disappointed fans, Townfall aims to breathe fresh life into the legendary series.
