It Ministry Seeks High Budget Despite Slow Progress On Karachi It Park

The Sindh government has approved Rs. 2.89 billion in funding for multiple infrastructure and public welfare projects in Karachi, marking a major step toward improving the city’s urban facilities. The funds will primarily support new road construction, water supply, and transport initiatives under the Karachi Development Authority (KDA).

The approval came during a meeting of the Sindh Cabinet’s Finance Committee, chaired by provincial ministers Nasir Hussain Shah, Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, and Saeed Ghani. The Local Government Department proposed transferring key schemes to the KDA, citing the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) limited capacity to manage new projects.

Officials emphasized that this restructuring aims to speed up delayed development schemes and strengthen KDA’s role in city planning and execution.

Major Approved Projects

Department Project Approved Funds
Transport Department Electric bikes for women (Non-ADP scheme) Rs. 299 million
Local Government Water supply project for 35 villages in Gadap Town, Malir Not disclosed
Health Department Procurement of essential vaccines Allocated
Works Department Drainage system under ADP Scheme No. 3332 Increased cost approved
Rescue 1122 Salaries for flood-duty staff (World Bank funded) Approved

A senior committee member noted,

“Transferring these projects to KDA will help accelerate development work across Karachi and ensure better administrative coordination.”

The meeting also reviewed non-development budget pressures affecting social programs. Proposals from departments whose secretaries were absent were deferred, with instructions for mandatory attendance in future sessions.

With these approvals, the Sindh government aims to revitalize Karachi’s infrastructure, strengthen essential services, and promote inclusive development across urban and suburban areas.
