The Sindh government has approved scholarships for 2,662 university students under the Sindh Education Endowment Fund (SEEF), providing financial support to deserving students pursuing higher education across Pakistan.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the SEEF Board of Trustees chaired by Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah. During the meeting, the board also approved the renewal of scholarships for 5,853 students who are already enrolled in various higher education programs.
Officials informed the board that SEEF currently supports students studying in 92 public and private universities nationwide. The fund has continued to expand over the years, with its capital reaching Rs. 12.617 billion as of June 2026. The Sindh government contributes Rs. 2 billion annually to strengthen the fund and increase educational opportunities for students.
Since its establishment in 2002, SEEF has helped 42,169 students complete their university education. The program aims to ensure that talented students are not deprived of higher education due to financial constraints.
Addressing the meeting, Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah said that economic hardship should never become a barrier to education for deserving students. He directed officials to introduce support for new academic disciplines that align with future employment and market demands.
The minister also instructed authorities to review the fund’s investment framework to improve returns and generate additional resources for scholarships. Furthermore, he emphasized the need for complete digitization of SEEF operations and ordered a third-party audit to enhance transparency and governance.
The board tasked the SEEF Executive Committee with preparing proposals to include more universities in the program, evaluate scholarship utilization by educational institutions, add emerging fields of study, and further expand scholarship coverage.
During the meeting, Shah expressed concern over the absence of university vice chancellors, stressing that their active participation is essential for making the scholarship system more responsive to the needs of students.
The latest approvals are expected to provide relief to thousands of students and strengthen the province’s efforts to improve access to higher education.
