Sindh’s educational boards will implement e-marking, scanning, and QR code software for the 2026 matriculation and intermediate exams. The system, officially launching on December 4 in Karachi, will modernize exam evaluation, ensure multiple assessments per paper, and streamline result processing.
Pakistan’s education boards have been gradually adopting technology to improve transparency, reduce manual errors, and enhance efficiency in examinations. The e-marking system aligns with national efforts to digitize results and implement modern evaluation methods across the country.
The Federal Education Board will provide Sindh boards with software for e-marking, scanning, barcodes, QR codes, and marking criteria, which will be used in the 2026 exams.
A high-level committee, Digitization and Technology Implementation in Education Boards, has been formed to oversee the process. Members include chairmen of Karachi, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Sukkur boards, along with the additional secretary of the Department of Universities and Boards.
“We convinced the federal government that if it can fund PhD scholarships nationwide, why can’t we be entrusted with the e-marking mechanism?” said Fakir Muhammad Lakho, convener of the committee and chairman of Karachi Higher Secondary Education Board.
Under the new system:
- Each paper will feature a QR code for scanning.
- Different teachers will mark different sections of the same paper.
- No teacher will mark more than one question from a single paper, ensuring multiple assessments.
- Systems for online enrolment, digital results, and certificate verification will also be implemented.
Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah, Executive Director of IBCC, confirmed that teams from all Sindh boards will attend training sessions in Islamabad next week to build capacity for e-marking. Following training, the software will be distributed to enable full digitalisation of the evaluation process.
