The Sindh government has clarified that a viral WhatsApp message claiming a “high-level security alert” in Karachi from November 12 to 30 is false.
The fake alert emerged a day after a suicide attack in Islamabad’s G-11 area, claiming verified intelligence had flagged multiple “high-risk” locations in Karachi, including Dolmen Mall, Empress Market, Jinnah Airport, and educational institutions. It also suggested strict safety measures and legal consequences under the Sindh Security of Vulnerable Establishments Act 2024 and Anti-Terrorism Act 1997.
The Sindh Home Department officially rejected the alert, stating:
“No official communication with this title or reference number has been issued by this department or any law enforcement agency under its control.”
Officials stressed that legitimate security notifications are only issued through official government channels and urged citizens and media to avoid sharing unverified social media messages.
Separately, the Home Department extended Section 144 restrictions on public gatherings for another month from November 12 to maintain peace and public order. Section 144 empowers authorities to temporarily prohibit assemblies of four or more people in sensitive areas.
The government urges the public to stay informed via official channels to prevent misinformation and panic.
