The Sindh Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department has implemented a major change under the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act 2024, formally linking vehicle number plates to the owner’s Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC).
Under this new system:
Vehicle number plates are officially registered in the name of the CNIC holder.
Two new number plate series tied to CNIC registration have been introduced.
Vehicle owners can retain their previously registered number plate and transfer it to another vehicle under their name.
Officials confirmed the amendment is now in effect, ensuring number plate ownership is securely linked to the individual owner, improving accountability and record-keeping across the province.
