Sindh’s New Taxi Service Promises Safer Rides for Women & Better Transit for All
The Sindh government has officially introduced the Peoples Pink and Normal Taxi Service, marking a significant step toward transforming the public transport system in the province.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon shared the news via a social media update on Wednesday. Later that evening, a formal press release elaborated on the initiative, highlighting that the Peoples Pink and Normal Taxi Service is intended to empower women, enhance travel safety, and encourage the use of eco-friendly transportation solutions across Sindh.
Describing the launch as a “historic milestone,” Memon — who oversees both the provincial transport and information departments — reaffirmed the government’s dedication to creating an inclusive and modern public transport network. He stressed that the Peoples Pink and Normal Taxi Service embodies Sindh’s mission to promote equal opportunities for all communities.

Empowering Women and Promoting Eco-Friendly Travel
The People’s Pink and Normal Taxi Service has been specifically designed to address two major goals: providing safer transportation options for women and reducing the environmental footprint of public transport. By offering a secure and accessible travel solution, the Sindh government hopes to inspire greater confidence among female commuters.
Additionally, the introduction of eco-friendly vehicles within the People’s Pink and Normal Taxi Service aligns with broader sustainability efforts. Sindh’s focus on greener transport options reflects its commitment to environmental responsibility and modernization.
Integrating Ride-Hailing Services Under One System
Memon previously announced plans to regulate and unify ride-hailing services operating within Karachi. Chairing a transport department meeting, Memon revealed that companies such as Careem and Yango would soon operate under a single, integrated system to ensure safer, more reliable, and standardized services for passengers.
“We’re working to bring the taxi system in Karachi under one umbrella in an integrated and modern manner,” Memon stated, emphasizing the government’s drive for comprehensive transportation reforms.
This move is expected to streamline operations, establish regulatory oversight, and elevate the overall quality of ride-hailing options available to Karachi’s residents.
A New Era for Public Transport in Sindh
The launch of the People’s Pink and Normal Taxi Service, combined with efforts to unify ride-hailing platforms, signals a broader push to modernize public transportation in Sindh. The provincial government is prioritizing safety, inclusivity, and environmental sustainability, paving the way for a smarter, more connected urban future.
By making bold changes like the People’s Pink and Normal Taxi Service, Sindh is taking proactive steps to ensure that its transportation infrastructure meets the evolving needs of its citizens, while setting a model for other regions to follow.
