The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department has announced a major initiative to introduce the Cambridge IGCSE program in selected government schools as a pilot project, aiming to raise academic standards and bring international-level education to public-sector students.
This initiative comes under an expanded collaboration between Cambridge International and the Sindh government, focusing on bridging the quality gap between private and public education. The announcement was made during the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards ceremony held in Karachi, where 317 Pakistani students were recognized for top global and national academic achievements.
Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah, attending as the chief guest, congratulated the awardees and emphasized the importance of fostering creativity, innovation, and practical learning among students. He stated, “Our goal is to create a generation capable of meeting global standards while retaining their cultural identity.”
This year, students from Sindh and Balochistan secured 120 awards, including 26 for highest marks worldwide and 53 for provincial distinctions, reflecting a growing trend of academic excellence beyond major urban centers.
Cambridge International’s Exams Director Amanda Ingram and Country Director Uzma Yousuf lauded the collaboration, saying it would
“enable students from all backgrounds to access world-class learning opportunities and prepare for a rapidly evolving global landscape.”
Education experts view the program as a transformative step that could help public school students gain international qualifications, enhance university admission prospects, and improve employability.
