Sindh to Seize Vehicles Over Traffic Law Violations

The Sindh government has announced strict punitive action against transporters who violate traffic laws, warning that vehicles will be seized and registrations suspended if operators fail to comply with route permit conditions and safety regulations.

Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said authorities will no longer tolerate reckless driving practices, including over-speeding, overloading, wrong overtaking, and violation of axle-load limits under the National Highway Safety Ordinance. He stressed that all vehicles must operate strictly within prescribed speed limits to ensure passenger safety.

“The safety of citizens is non-negotiable. Any transporter found violating the law will face serious consequences,” the minister stated.

The minister announced a complete ban on gas usage in inter-district transport as well as school and college vehicles. He further made emergency exits and first aid boxes mandatory for all public service vehicles, adding that only vehicles with proper documentation and drivers holding valid and genuine licenses will be allowed on roads.

For long-distance travel, vehicles covering 322 kilometers or more must now carry two licensed and eligible drivers to reduce fatigue-related accidents.

Transporters have been directed to obtain valid route permits by February 28, 2026. Sharjeel Memon warned that a province-wide crackdown will begin after the deadline, during which vehicles will be confiscated, FIRs registered against operators, and vehicle registrations suspended by the excise department for non-compliance.

The move comes amid rising concerns over traffic accidents involving heavy and public transport in Sindh, particularly in Karachi and inter-city routes. The government says these measures aim to strengthen road safety enforcement, reduce fatal accidents, and ensure compliance with national transport standards.
