KARACHI: The Sindh government, through its Transport and Mass Transit Department, has launched a scheme aimed at improving women’s mobility by offering free electric scooters. This initiative targets both students and working women who are permanent residents of Sindh.
To be eligible, applicants must hold a valid driving license either for a motorbike or a car, and must agree not to sell or sublet the scooter for a minimum of seven years. Selected applicants will also be required to pass a road safety skills test.
The scooters, which are pink and electric-powered, will be distributed through a balloting process to ensure transparency.
This process will be overseen by a committee comprising representatives from the Excise, Transport, Finance, and Media departments, and will be monitored by both print and electronic media outlets.
Additionally, the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) will provide free training sessions across the province, focusing on riding skills and road safety.
Women interested in applying for the program can do so through the official website. The scheme is intended to make travel more accessible and secure for women, supporting their independence in daily commuting.
