Singapore based famous ride hailing service coming to Pakistan

Grab, a well-known international ride-hailing service has announced to launch its services in Pakistan with the partnership of Careem. Not just Pakistan, Grab will expand its services in 13 other countries from the first quarter of 2020.

Grab is a Singapore based Transportation Company formerly known as MyTeksi and GrabTaxi. The company basically started its operations from Malaysia in 2012 and then after 2 years, Grab moved its headquarters to Singapore. It is currently operating in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Thailand.

The ride-hailing company is looking forward to expanding its services from Southern Asia to the Middle East as well. According to the statement released by the company, the Grab users in Pakistan will be able to book their rides through the Careem app.

Grab is not only a ride-hailing service but it also provides food delivery and payment solutions. It has not made it clear that Grab would bring its other services to Pakistan or not. In Pakistan, Grab will offer its services in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Abbottabad, Sargodha, Mardan, Sukkur, Quetta, and Bahawalpur.

The expansion came after the Grab’s investment in Splyt, a London-based mobility marketplace company. Splyt provides transportation services across the globe with the collaboration of different ride-hailing services. Uber and Careem are also in partnership with Splyt.

Grab will offer the same services as Careem, for example, there would be GrabPay so users will be able to pay for their rides through credits. Like Careem Rewards, users will also earn GrabRewards points by paying money for rides.

As the reports are mentioning that the service will be made available for GrabApp users traveling in these 14 countries and the Careem users can use CareemApp to book Grab ride. In Pakistan, after logging in the GrabApp it is asking to set up a GrabPay account before riding outside South Asia. This gives the idea that local people will only be able to use Grab services through the Careem app instead of GrabApp. We hope that the Singapore based commute service will clarify this problem soon.
