The share of solar net-metering in Pakistan’s total power generation increased by 14 basis points year-on-year (YoY) in December 2025, highlighting growing adoption of solar energy and reduced reliance on the national grid, according to Arif Habib Limited (AHL).
Overall power generation in December rose by 8.8% YoY, reflecting higher energy demand and ongoing expansion in renewable capacity. While solar adoption strengthened over the year, net-metering units declined sharply by 56.3% month-on-month, indicating a slowdown in new installations compared with November.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) projects that electricity demand in Pakistan will grow by 1.0% YoY during 2026, suggesting continued opportunities for renewable energy contributions, particularly from solar net-metering systems.
