South Air Launches as New Domestic Airline in Pakistan

Pakistan’s aviation sector welcomed a new player as South Air officially launched, aiming to expand regional connectivity and provide affordable travel options across the country. The airline’s debut marks a significant step toward linking smaller and underserved cities in South Punjab, interior Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

At the inaugural ceremony, Senate Chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani called the launch “historic,” highlighting how stronger air links can boost local development, improve access to services, and promote national cohesion. South Air’s first flight will operate from Karachi to Multan, with plans to gradually expand its network to additional destinations.

Gilani urged the airline to maintain affordable fares, ensuring accessibility for all income groups, noting that even lawmakers often face high ticket costs. Airline executives, legislators, and business leaders attending the event expressed optimism that South Air would stimulate domestic tourism, enhance business travel, and provide more convenient travel options for Pakistani travelers.
