Spotify is preparing a meaningful update that gives users more control over how they experience content. The company will soon allow people to completely turn off video elements inside the app. This change reflects growing demand from users who prefer a simpler, audio-focused interface.
The feature will begin rolling out globally later this month. It will be available to all users, including those on the free plan. This means both premium and non-paying listeners will gain access to the same level of control.
Users will find the new options in Settings under Content and Display. From there, they can disable Canvas looping visuals and turn off videos linked to music and podcasts. Once selected, these preferences will stay consistent across all platforms. Whether someone uses mobile, desktop, web, or TV, the app will remember their choice.
However, some video elements will remain. Free-tier users of Spotify will still see video ads, along with Canvas-style visuals in certain audio advertisements. So while the update improves control, it does not remove every form of video content.
Spotify says the update focuses on giving users more choice. At the same time, it responds to feedback from listeners who felt the push toward video was unnecessary. Many users prefer a clean and distraction-free music experience.
