Spotify’s Latest Feature Lets You Switch Instantly Between Audiobooks and Physical Books

Published by

Spotify is testing a smart new feature for its audiobooks that could change the way people read and listen. Called Page Match, the tool allows users to snap a photo of a page in a physical book and instantly jump to the same spot in the audiobook.

The feature works both ways. While you can move from the physical book to the audio, Page Match also tells you what page in the physical book matches your current position in the audiobook. This makes it easier for readers who like switching between listening and reading.

Page Match was discovered in Spotify’s latest app code, although it is not yet active. According to the source, shared screenshots from the app confirm that Spotify is actively working on it, so it should roll out soon.

The feature requires users to own or unlock the audiobook on Spotify first. It will only be available in regions where Spotify offers audiobooks. Interestingly, Amazon offers a similar feature, but it works only between audiobooks and e-books, not physical books.

Spotify has not announced an exact release date, but Page Match looks like a thoughtful addition for audiobook lovers who enjoy pairing listening with reading.
