Sri Lanka secured a dominant 105-run victory over Oman at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, claiming their second consecutive win in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026 Group stage.
Batting first, the hosts posted a formidable total of 225-5 in 20 overs, anchored by impressive performances from Kusal Mendis, Pavan Rathnayake, and skipper Dasun Shanaka.
The Dasun Shanaka-led side started shakily, losing Pathum Nissanka for 13 runs off 11 balls and Kamil Mishara for eight, leaving the score at 42-2 after just 5.1 overs against disciplined Omani bowling.
Rathnayake and Kusal Mendis rebuilt the innings with a 94-run partnership, with Rathnayake scoring a maiden T20I fifty, hitting 60 runs off 28 balls including eight fours and one six.
Skipper Dasun Shanaka joined Mendis after Rathnayake’s dismissal, and the duo added 63 runs aggressively, with Shanaka hitting 50 runs off 20 balls, including two fours and five sixes, before being dismissed.
Kusal Mendis was run out for 61 off 45 balls, featuring seven fours, leaving Sri Lanka at 200-5 in 18.2 overs, before finishing strong with Kamindu Mendis unbeaten on 19 off seven balls.
Chasing 226, Oman could only manage 120-9 in their 20 overs, with Mohammad Nadeem top-scoring with 53 runs, while Wasim Ali scored 27 off 20 balls as nine players fell for single-digit scores.
Dushmantha Chameera and Maheesh Theekshana took two wickets each, while Dunith Wellalage, Dushan Hemantha, and Kamindu Mendis took one wicket each.
