The City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi has announced a major road closure near the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The closure, effective from today, will remain in place for five days to ensure smooth movement of teams and security officials during the ongoing Pakistan vs South Africa Test match.
Stadium Road, from Double Road to 9th Avenue, has been completely closed for all types of traffic. The closure began at 10:00 a.m. (PKT) on Monday and will continue until the conclusion of the match series.
All other major roads in Rawalpindi remain open and traffic is currently flowing normally, according to the traffic police update.
To handle the diversion, the traffic police have deployed wardens at key intersections. These wardens will guide commuters and help avoid congestion near the stadium. Citizens are urged to use alternative routes and follow diversion signs placed throughout the area.
A CTP spokesperson stated:
“We have put in place a comprehensive traffic plan to manage the expected rush during the match days. Citizens are requested to cooperate with traffic officers and follow diversion routes to ensure smooth traffic flow.”
The City Traffic Police will provide real-time traffic updates through FM Radio 88.6 and its official social media accounts. CTP is encouraging commuters to stay tuned for regular updates to avoid delays.
The spokesperson added:
“Our priority is to facilitate the public while maintaining security around the stadium. We request drivers to plan their routes accordingly and stay informed.”
This temporary closure is expected to ease the movement of teams and security officials while ensuring public safety. Regular traffic will resume once the Test match concludes.
