Stricter Safety Checks Announced for All Vehicles on Motorways

Following a deadly accident on the M-9 Motorway, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has ordered an immediate inquiry and strict enforcement of vehicle safety standards. Authorities have been instructed to check all vehicles, commercial or private, for tire conditions and overall fitness before allowing them on motorways, aiming to prevent future tragedies.

The minister has directed the Inspector General of Motorway Police to investigate the incident thoroughly and submit a detailed report as soon as possible. According to the instructions, no vehicle with worn-out, weak, or expired tires should be allowed access to national highways or motorways.

Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized that safety inspections must not be limited to commercial transport alone; private vehicles must also undergo proper checks. “Strict implementation of prescribed safety standards is necessary to save lives on our roads,” the minister said, underlining the importance of routine vehicle maintenance.

The fatal accident on the M-9 has once again highlighted longstanding concerns about road safety, particularly on busy motorways connecting major cities. Experts say that poorly maintained tires and vehicle negligence are among the leading causes of motorway accidents in Pakistan.

Expressing sorrow over the loss of lives, Abdul Aleem Khan offered condolences to the families affected and prayed for their strength and patience during this difficult time.

Road safety advocates believe that consistent enforcement, combined with public awareness campaigns, could significantly reduce accidents on motorways. While infrastructure development has improved road conditions, authorities warn that vehicle fitness and driver responsibility remain critical factors in preventing fatalities.
